LOCATION

ECWA School of Midwifery, Egbe, located in Kogi State between Ilorin and Lokoja, is conveniently situated on the same campus as the ECWA School of Nursing, Egbe.

HISTORY

Founded by missionaries of the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) in 1955 as a Nursing Training School, it was later transformed into a Midwifery Training School in 1971.  The school continued the Training of Basic midwives until 1993 when it was replaced with post basic midwifery training. In August 2017, the Nursing and Midwifery Council granted the school’s request to change to Basic Midwifery programme, which stands to date.

REDEVELOPMENT

The ECWA School of Midwifery, Egbe has been undergoing a major infrastructural revitalization since 2018.  This includes the construction of new hostels, an administrative building, study area, kitchen, dining hall, laundry, and recreation area with a new sports field.  Classrooms, staff housing, teaching labs, offices, IT center, and other areas, will be completely upgraded on the current site.  These upgrades, along with changes to the curriculum, will coincide with the school’s legal recognition as the ECWA College of Nursing and Midwifery.
