THE REVITALIZATION OF THE ECWA COLLEGE OF NURSING & MIDWIFERY, EGBE

In 1955 the ECWA School of Nursing was launched, followed by the School of Midwifery in 1977 – both with the mission of training nurses for service at Egbe Hospital and throughout Nigeria. Now 64 years later the Revitalization of the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery has begun!

The infrastructure, buildings and curriculum are being completely modernized but the vision remains the same – To train nurses who will provide excellence in health care while proclaiming the Gospel in Egbe and throughout Nigeria.

REVITALIZATION PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • Infrastructural development of a new piece of land including roads, drainage, water and electrical supply and a sports field

  • Build three new student hostels, an administrative block with study hall, kitchen and dining hall, and laundry facilities

  • Remodel existing dormitories into classrooms and staff housing

  • Install new school equipment and furniture, modernize teaching aids, upgrade computer technology, completely refit student housing with new furniture

  • Recruit missionary nurse educators, and hire additional Nigerian staff

PROGRESS TO DATE

  • Hostels (1 Boys, 2 Girls) – completion of interior/exterior walls, installation of ceiling and roof;  completion of soak-away, electrical wiring and plumbing; installation of windows and doors; exterior/interior painting complete

  • Administrative Building with Study Hall – foundation laid; completion of exterior/interior walls; completion of ceiling and roof and electrical wiring

  • Dining Hall with Kitchen and Laundry – foundation laid; completion of exterior walls, roof installed, completion of ceiling and electrical wiring

  • Security Wall – completion of cement wall around the perimeter of complex

  • Guard House and Main Gate – nearing completion

  • Sports Field – ground levelled, planting of grass on field
